Translating is done by volunteers, no one makes money with it. But it is a very nice way to help other people!

Translating the pictos

There are a lot of pictos. So it is best to divide the work between several people. Ask other people to help you!
It is best to do the translation in blocks. I will keep track of the pictos that are already translated.
I prefer to use blocks of 500 pictos. That may look like a lot of pictos but using the included translator it can be done very quickly. It is not uncommon to translate 300 pictos in a hour.
I've made a video which shows how the translation of pictos work.

The translation option will be available after installation of a special translator version of Picto-Selector. There is no longer the need to change the shortcut of Picto-Selector.

When I told you which pictos you can translate, please enter the number in the text box between the << and >> buttons.
Then use the Translate buttons and "Go to next untranslated" to translate the symbols. Modify the translation to get the best result.
Most important about the translation is that it provides a way to find the symbol in your language! That is more important than a 'correct' translation.
In some case it means that a symbols can get a completely different name because it is better known by that name in your language.

Spanish example:

In your case I have given you 3 blocks of 500 pictos:
6000 - 6499
6500 - 6999
7000 - 7499

After creating a new translation project for spanish (also in the video)
Select english as reference language (top combobox)
You can start by entering 6000 in the edit box (between the << and >> buttons

Symbol 6000 is the letter c - lowercase

You can now press the buton with Translate Reference and the translation will be put in the edit box just above that button
c - minúsculas

This might be correct or not, you decide, I do not speak spanish 🙂

If it is not correct you can change it.

When the translation is correct you can press the next untranslated button to go to picto 6001

Sometime the Translate Reference responds with a Timeout message, then just try again. Internet is sometime lazy (or crowded)

Repeat this process until you are at picto 6500, then press the save button and send me the translation project file.

You can now continue with the next block of pictos and send my the translation again when you have translated until picto 7000 and again when you have translated until picto 7500

You can always save the translations and continue at another time by loading them again.

If it is too much work or if you do not have enough time let me know. When other translators are ready I will look what is left.

Some pictos might be insulting, however, please do a proper translation. Even if you would never use them yourself.

If you decide to help me with the translation please send a email with the following information:

Translating the application

It is also nice to have the application translated. A video show the work involved. It is created for the african language. But it works the same for all languages.

You will need a special version of Picto-Selector to get the needed po files. So always first email me.

PoEdit can be downloaded from:

Make sure you also translate the yellow lines in poedit, yellow means fuzzy and is only a proposal for a translation which looked a lot like other translations.

Translating the website

I like to add more languages at the main page. It's makes Picto-Selector much easier accessable.

Send me a message and I will give you access as translator to this website.

Start with logging into your profile

After i have added you as user you will receive a user registration confimation. Your language (if it is a new one) is hidden for normal visitors, only logged-in users can see them.

Login into the wordpress site on:

Here you can change your profile settings.

At the bottom of the profile settings you can see the WPML-language settings, please
• select your language
• check the box for showing hidden languages

And press update.

On the left in the dashboard you can see the language interface link, go to that page.
Here you can see the items that needs translation…

As soon as pages get translated I will add the translated ones to the menus and unhide the language as soon as at least the Home menu items and contact page is ready.

When you start translating you will see [row][/row][spacer][button] etc

Those are command for the website and should not be translated. There is one exception (ofcourse there is). When you see something like:

[span1][dropcap]1[/dropcap][button text="Download" link="../download/" style="default" size="normal" target="_self" display="inline" icon="no"][/span1]

Then you can translate the bold text between the “”

When in doubt then it is probably better not to translate and ask me about it.

Contact form

Some texts for the contact form needs to be translated in a different way:

Your message was sent successfully. Thanks.

If you can send me the translations in a email that would be great. I will prepare a contact form for your language.
